THE PROBLEM
Due to the increased carbon emission trends in the field of maritime transport, the International Maritime Organization recommends a necessary reduction in emissions of 40% and 50%, by the years 2030 and 2050 respectively. In addition, an inland waterway ship is on average 40 years old nowadays, while its retrofitting to become electric is costly and expensive. On the other hand, new electric vessels come with large CAPEX costs. Either way their charging is considered a dangerous and slow process.
THE SOLUTION
The solution here is provided by the Energy-as-a-Service platform. It is a pay-per-use battery swapping network for inland waterway vessels, which directly relates the cost of the battery to its usage. Thanks to its innovative algorithms, the platform manages the battery swapping system, processes information, decides and provides instructions at the same time.
