THE PROBLEM

Accelerating the global adoption of innovative electric vehicles (EVs) holds immense promise in achieving ambitious environmental targets, such as Europe's Fit-for-55 goal to slash CO2 emissions by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2050. While fully electric vehicles boast zero tailpipe emissions, they represent just a fraction of the potential impact.

Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify solutions and methods pertaining to the development of electric vehicles that, with their characteristics, will accelerate the transition to sustainable urban mobility and contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector in both advanced and emerging markets

THE PROJECT

The ZEV-UP project aims to accelerate global electric vehicle (EV) adoption by developing affordable and customizable Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) for passengers and goods transportation. Leveraging smart design and engineering, ZEV-UP will create lighter, more efficient EVs tailored to diverse market needs, while also exploring innovative charging solutions like Battery-as-a-Service.

ZEV-UP will conduct user-centric research to ensure its EVs meet consumer preferences and develop strategies for short- and long-term EV uptake across different markets, ultimately contributing to cleaner cities and reduced greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector.

The main objectives of the ZEV-UP project are the following:

Analyze the frugal BEV market and identify opportunities for growth





2.

Develop a lightweight, affordable, and sustainable frugal BEV through real-world testing and feedback






3.

Accelerate frugal BEV adoption by providing decision-makers with market analyses, barrier identification, and vehicle recommendations

4.

Contribute to the reduction of emissions, pollutants, and traffic congestion

 

THE ZEV-UP Vehicle

ZEV-UP is set to introduce an innovative zero-emission vehicle concept with three variants: a compact two-seater for urban travel, an extended wheelbase model for four passengers, and another for commercial use with a cargo area and seating for two.

For the ZEV-UP vehicle, prioritizing sustainability is paramount, achieved through the utilization of lightweight materials, shared components, alternative manufacturing methods, and optimized design. Swappable batteries will also boost range and energy efficiency. To ensure real-world viability, all ZEV-UP variants will be tested in real conditions in Budapest and Istanbul.

  • Lead the development of innovative usage models tailored to diverse regional contexts.

  • Coordinate market research initiatives to analyze the current landscape of frugal BEVs worldwide.

  • Take charge of demand assessment efforts across targeted regions.

  • Assuming responsibility for evaluating the market acceptance and uptake of ZEV-UP's innovation.
